There are several technologies available and many are in experimental stages

Selection Criteria
One has to carry out thorough study before selecting any of the technologies for the specific location / site.. The study should include but not limited to the following aspect. These are:
1.  Disinfection Efficacy (maximum)
2.  Environmental Factors (minimum/negligible)
3.  Liquid Discharge (nil or minimal)
4.  Air emissions organics, CO, heavy metals, acid gases, odour (nil or minimal)
5.  Recognizibility of the final product (should be unrecognizable)
6.  Quantum of weight or volume reduction (maximum)
7.  Potentials for recovery of energy of recyclable products in unrecognized form (added advantages)
8.  Batch or continuous process and involvement of human element (continuous process with minimal
     involvement of human operation is a very positive and infact an imperative factor)

 
    9.  Occupational hazards. (minimal as for continuous processes, auto control and auto feeding
     systems)
10. Exposed handling of waste (nil or minimal)
11. Consumable and fuel consumption (nil or minimal)
12. Power consumption (minimal)
13. Costs both capital and operational and maintenance
14. Vender Qualifications - very important for after sales service
